The first of these Knights, found in the Undead Burg, is seen wielding a Black Knight Greatsword capable of cutting down any player caught without a good shield for blocking or parrying, or knowing how to do some cyclical backstabs. Formerly donning exquisite silver mail, their armor is now left charred and black from the aftermath of the linking of the First Flame. Knights of Gwyn, Lord of Sunlight, devoted enough to follow him to the Kiln of the First Flame when it began to fade.

The question still stands as to whether or not the Gargoyles were placed there specifically to guard the Bell of Awakening, but given the juxtaposition of the bell being placed in a tower surrounded by Gargoyles (even though only two of the four come to life) it can be presumed. The first Gargoyle’s tail can be cut off to acquire it as a weapon, but the second Gargoyle’s tail seems to have already broken off. With that, this is also the first fight that some players are able to summon assistance, granted at probably the most opportune time. The slopes of the parish roof can be somewhat troubling during the fight, but typically the largest issue for most players is the two large and powerful enemies quickly overwhelming them. At first, only one is encountered, but when that gargoyle is close to death, his partner will arrive brandishing the same weapon coupled with an ability to breathe fire.
